The month of June has its own significance with the celebrations of Environment Day. To imbibe the quality of saving our mother nature from being exploited and harmed, Dr. Ulhas Patil English Medium School undertook certain initiative to enhance the students with the knowledge of how to protect our nature and to preserve and conserve the planet earth. Monday, 24 June2019 was commemorated as the ‘Earth Day’ in the school campus. On this day a special assembly was conducted to inspire the students to work collectively for the protection of Earth and to emphasise on the need to build a greener world. Various activities such as planting saplings, cleaning creeks, collecting information, taking positive action in the local environment and discussion on environmental issues were held to make younger generation more sensitive towards environmental protection.

A tree plantation drive was carried out at the school premises. The main aim of this drive was to spread and create awareness to protect the environment from degrading. The programme started with an influential speech from our principal on the effects of global warming and the importance of trees in our lives. Upon her instructions, the program further followed by students from each class planting saplings in the campus as well as at their homes. The event was a success as each student contributed profoundly for this day.

A skit on the importance of environmental protection was performed by the students. The students dressed as natural sources of the environment and enacted the play on the theme to save the environment from global warming. The skit highlighted the necessity of developing skills, attitudes and approaches to environmental problems in the young minds. The skit influenced all so deeply that they were given standing ovation. Later the students took an oath to prevent the environment from pollution by contributing little in our daily life.

The Students of class 6 were instructed to prepare brochures of different medicinal and useful plants describing their importance and how they are helpful to us in many ways. The students each section were divided into 4 groups. The class teachers instructed the students to prepare the brochure with their own creativity and novelty. The brochures were very illustrative, colourful and creative as well.

Pebble Painting competition was conducted for the students of class 7. The students painted pebbles of different shapes and sizes to create paper weights. From small to big, round to irregular, they converted the pebbles into bugs, fish or even cartoon characters. Every creation was unique and they loved expressing their creativity

a slogan writing competition was conducted for the students of class 8. The students wrote slogans to create awareness among everyone about the need of ‘Environmental Protection’. The students wrote slogans related to the topics of environment viz. water and energy conservation, or saving trees or fuel.

Chart preparation-

The students made use of eco-friendly materials and conveyed a message of “Going Green” to the complete school.

A creative writing competition was conducted for the students of class 10. The students wrote essays on various subjects like, pollution, global warming, environmental degradation, planet earth, waste management etc.
